Changes in hormone levels during pregnancy can manifest themselves with different effects on different tissues and organs in the body. These intense hormonal changes during pregnancy can also have significant effects on oral and dental health.
During pregnancy, the increase in estrogen and progesterone hormones can lead to symptoms such as bleeding, swelling, and sensitivity in the gums. This condition is called "pregnancy gingivitis." However, pregnancy does not directly cause tooth loss. Tooth loss usually occurs as a result of the progression of untreated gum diseases.
Regular dental checkups and oral care during pregnancy are very important. Since gum problems can develop more easily during this period, extra care should be taken with daily oral care.
